History

St. Mary’s N.S. was founded in 1981 due to a rapidly increasing population in Ashbourne at that time and the need for further primary school places.  The school started out in the old school buildings on the church grounds and subsequently moved to prefabs alongside St. Declan’s N.S.

We moved to our current site in 1986, following the construction of a new school building. In 2012 our facilities were enhanced with the construction of a new two-storey 6-classroom block with resource rooms and a lift.

2022 marked our 40th birthday! St. Mary’s National School began in 1981, in the grounds of St. Declan’s NS.  Over the course of the year, we marked this milestone birthday in various different ways, including a celebratory mass, special archive week, special assemblies and an open evening.
